There is no doubt that our elderly have been hit the hardest by the COVID-19 pandemic. From those who live in seniors’ residences and are fearing the next outbreak to those who have contracted the disease and face a higher risk of death, this is a difficult time for the eldest among us.
Is there a way, when this is all over, that we can show our appreciation for our elderly – those who worked hard throughout their lives to provide for their families and build a society whose freedoms and benefits we now enjoy?
Cycling Without Age (CWA) is a grassroots movement that started in Copenhagen Denmark in 2012 and has spread internationally to 50 countries with 2,200 local chapters (as of March 2020). Special three-seat, electrically-assisted bikes called “Trishaws” allow volunteer cyclists to provide free rides to residents of seniors’ homes. Worldwide, CWA has 33,000 trained pilots and has served over 1.5 million people.
Cycling Without Age Lanark County aims to bring the experience to residents of Lanark County’s seniors’ homes. We are currently raising funds to purchase our first trishaw and hope to begin offering rides in the fall of 2020.
There are two ways you can help:
- We have partnered with WayBlaze crowdfunding platform to raise funds to purchase our first trishaw. Would you consider making a donation by clicking Donate Now or Contact Us directly to make a donation by cash or cheque.
- Cycling Without Age is run by volunteers. For a minimum of one hour a month you can join the fun by Becoming a Pilot or use your promotion and administration skills to help organize the fun by Becoming a Captain.
Let’s show our elderly how much we appreciate them!
