Newsletter, January 2024: Greetings CWA Lanark County Fellow Pilots!

The reason for this communication is to let you know about some exciting activities that have been happening to promote our work in Lanark County.

In case you missed it, CWA Lanark County participated in the 2023 Carleton Place Santa Claus Parade.

Our fearless leader Treff Peters dressed up as Super Hero Blue Beetle and pulled one of our CWA trailers with his ATV. Mark Manzon, not to be out done, also attired as a Super Hero, piloted our decorated Trishaw with passenger (and pilot) Brenda Hunt. Brenda handed out CWA cards to the crowds lined along the street, and I shared CWA fliers with well-wishers.

Continuing with our marketing strategy, we have embarked on a CWALC Ambassador Program at Stoneridge Manor in Carleton Place. Starting in December 2023 and with the intention of continuing until April 2024, every weekend a volunteer pilot spends a couple of hours in the lobby of Stoneridge Manor.

You can’t miss us with the large CWA posters (stored in the parked trailer), the wall poster with a Trishaw adapted for wheelchairs, a card table, CWA donation box and CWA fliers. Another key component are the liability forms that we are encouraging relatives to sign on behalf of their parents who are residents at Stoneridge. Our goal is to increase the number of residents who will be able to ride with us this coming summer.

It might seem a leap of seasons, but this is the PERFECT time to tell people about our Trishaw program. Today was my turn at Stoneridge, and I brought my laptop to remind staff, residents and visitors with a Ted Talk about the origin and benefits of CWA in Lanark County. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O6Ti4qUa-OU

You know this already, but it doesn’t hurt to educate your family, neighbours and friends about the wonderful things we’re doing to promote geriatric wellbeing in Lanark community.

Warm regards,
Catherine Cosstick, CWALC Pilot
