Newsletter March-April 2024

Warm Greetings to CWA Lanark County Pilots, Passengers, Sponsors, Donors and Friends of CWALC

Spring is in the air (some days more than others), and we are excited about getting our Trishaw back on the trails and country roads in Lanark County.

CWALC Was at “Sign Up Night” on Thursday, March 7, 2024, at the arena in Carleton Place. We were one of many local groups sharing information about our programs and inviting participants to join us. Special “shout out” to Joe O’Hara who stopped to chat and has since signed up with CWALC. A lot of people came by to say hello, even though I forgot the obligatory bowl of free candy.

Join Us at Earthfest on Saturday, April 20, 2024, from 11 am to 3 pm at Market Square, 7 Beckwith Street, Carleton Place. Check out our colourful east Asian Rickshaw as well as the Trishaw. We will be offering rides on the Trishaw and accepting donations. Bring family and friends to our table and help us promote CWA Lanark County.

Train to Be a Pilot: Mark Manzon and Treff Peters will be offering half-day training sessions at Stoneridge Manor on Sunday, April 28; Saturday, May 4 and Sunday, May 26. You are encouraged to study the training manual and watch the training videos on our website in advance of the training sessions. Then call Treff at 613-257-2892 to confirm the date and time of your training session.

Celebrate Mother’s Day in May with a Trishaw $10 Gift Certificate. Give mother and her friend, relative or neighbour a ride on the Trishaw. Save and print your certificate from our website, then contact Treff Peters at 613 267-2892 to make arrangements. The gift certificate is redeemable from May 1 to 31, 2024.

CWALC Summer Promotional Day is happening on Sunday, June 30, 2024, from 10 am to 2 pm at Stoneridge Manor. You’re invited to enjoy the festivities and cheer on the Stoneridge seniors, family and staff members as they sample a ride in the Trishaw in the round-about circular parking area.

Vanessa Lebrecque, new Executive Director at Stoneridge Manor, Carleton Place, Ontario.

INTRODUCING: Vanessa Lebrecque, new Executive Director at Stoneridge Manor. Recently, we had the opportunity to meet Vanessa Lebrecque, E.D., at Stoneridge Manor. Vanessa came to Stoneridge Manor with a wealth of administrative and nursing experience. Vanessa’s career has included leadership positions in Cornwall, Picton, and the Ottawa area. Vanessa completed the Registered Practical Nursing program at Algonquin College and then later taught Algonquin’s Personal Support Worker program. Vanessa is also a certified yoga instructor and shared with us her passion for “Accessible Yoga”. She enjoys gardening and baking in her spare time. We are pleased to have awarded Vanessa an honourary membership in the CWALC chapter.

Do You Have Fundraising Ideas??? We need another regular Trishaw, as well as two Trishaws that could each accommodate wheelchair entry, and a trailer that is wide enough to store two Trishaws at a time. Our “wish list” will cost us approximately $70,000. We continue to apply for grants, talk to local service clubs and thank our sponsors and donors. All funding ideas are welcomed and appreciated.

Until next time,

Catherine Cosstick, CWALC Pilot
